Cossacks is a real-time strategy game based on the events of the XVI-XVIII. century. So at the time when a man lived only for war and the gold of entire states flowed into the armies before they too were overrun by death.
In order to survive during this time, you choose one of 16 countries at the beginning of the game: Algeria, Austria, England, France, Netherlands, Piedmont, Poland, Portugal, Prussia, Russia, Saxony, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, or Venice. In the campaign, however, you can also meet other non-playable nations like pirates. Of course, every country has its advantages and disadvantages, as well as typical building styles, units and technologies that are based on the historical model: England represents the strongest naval power, Austria relies entirely on its cavalry, etc.
In the finished game, up to 8,000 units should be able to face each other. You will still be able to keep track of things with a variety of formations. These also have extreme playful effects. For example, some formations take advantage of great strength, but are quite vulnerable to archers. Realism should not be neglected either. A few smaller swordsmen, for example, are unable to destroy a stone wall, but heavy artillery is required.
Of course, diversity of troops and formations are of no use if you cannot afford the beautiful units at all. For this reason, the economy relies on six resources – food, wood, stone, gold, iron and coal -. That sounds like a lot, but the micromanagement should be reduced so that the fight comes to the fore.
