
A pebble that rolls in a certain place at a particular moment can lead to the shifting of entire mountains. That was to be Elhant’s destiny. Born into the family of an elven priest, he soon became aware of an unusual gift, the ability to sense evil. Rather than follow in his father’s footsteps, he decided to use this gift to serve his people on the frontier as a Ranger. In this role, his aptitude proved very useful in defending against Orc raiding parties. Recently, he has been troubled by a recurring dream. While patrolling the wall of the City of Dawn, he hears a horn. As the archers rush to the parapets, he looks out into the darkness to see the cause of the commotion. What he sees is a horrid sight, an army of undead moving to attack.
Heroes of Annihilated Empires is GSC Game World’s intriguing project described as “RTS vs. RPG”, and reportedly incorporating both genres rather than just combining selected elements. Since it first came to our attention in the latter part of 2004, we have learned that the game is the first part of a planned trilogy set in the original fantasy world of Atlans, where the races stand on the brink of hostilities that could destroy them all. Accordingly, Elhant’s inherent skill, his courage and marksmanship with his weapon of choice, the bow, will be sorely tested as he attempts to rally his kind to victory. The meaning of his disturbing vision remains veiled in mystery and shadows.
