GSC Game World (GSCGW for short) is an Ukrainian game development company and also a publisher thanks to GSC World Publishing. The Prague-based company continues to be managed by its founder, Sergiy Grygorovych (romanized: Hryhorovych Serhiy,). The company was established in 1995 and continues to this day with a small break (2011-2014). Ukrainian developers are mostly proficient in strategy and FPS games, but have also winked in other directions (e.g. Hover Ace). You can read about the history of the company in this article.
The GSC is working currently the game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, the latest act in his deservedly famous series, scheduled for 2024 for PCs and next-generation Xbox consoles.Epic contributes and equipped with the Unreal engine, this FPS is currently the company’s most important project, which is also supported by Microsoft (at release it will available on the Xbox Game Pass).
The current number of GSC developers is unknown, but they have been considered a smaller team since the 2014 reorganization. This is suggested by the use of a licensed engine, which is a cost-effective solution as an in-house development of the already obsolete X-RAY engine.
GSC World Publishing currently takes care of the distribution rights for most of their games, mostly on Steam and GOG. Titles like Alexander and Hover Ace are not available because of licensing rights, while American Conquest: Divided Nation, which many have asked for, has no rights at all (they didn’t officially participate as a developer). Points of interesting: Codename Outbreak and Firestarter avaiable just at GOG.
