Description: Candia town siege. "Hello. Here is my new map showing the famous ( but less known with us ) siege of the city of Candia on Crete. The city of CAndia ( today Iraklion ) belonging to the Republic of Venice - was blockaded from the sea in 1656 by the Turks who from that period began landings and attempts to capture the fortress. In 1666 the regular siege proper began. The fortress was defended by some 20,000 men, including 9,000 Frenchmen. The siege took the form of unprecedented mine work on the scale of the time. Mines were dug, dug up, dug in and laid. The CandiaDefenders, in turn, built counterexcavations and laid countermines. The Turks made dozens of assaults on the town and only the seizure of one of the bastions undermined the morale of the garrison. The French, in addition, had had enough of this 20-year service and sailed home - something one can hardly resent them for π The city capitulated in 1669 after including all blockades - about a 20-year siege.
This map shows the period of the 3 year - last siege. The game is designed for 2, 3 or 4 players even, as it is based on the "battle of generals" system. In this battle, on the contrary, you are allowed to make all available upgrades and produce units. It is impossible to build anything, so you have to reckon with a limit on the number of units - every lost house has its consequences. Siege is quite long and I recommend it only to geeks. My first test game took a total of four hours after which I unfortunately surrendered the city. Please note that if the Turks do not take the city within 8 hours - Venice wins the battle ( but this is just a theory π Due to the artillery, the game only makes sense under MOD."
