The Cossacks sold very well, but that was not the merit of the US market. Overseas, gamers stayed with the concurrent games, so CDV and GSC Game World launched a new title for the local market, American Conquest. The slightly slower but more tactical gameplay required more strategic determination from players – some loved it for that, some hated it for that. In any case, the American Conquest series was born and began its worldwide distribution.

The success of American Conquest cried out for a complement and was heard in the form of Fight Back. Featuring several new races, units, campaigns and trivia, the pack perfectly expanded the base game to become a standalone title.

American Conquest: Divided Nation is a real odd-one-out. On the one hand, it’s not a GSC Game World creation, it’s being developed by Revolution Strategy, commissioned by rights-holding CDV, but with the help of the Ukrainian guys. On the other hand, it was released in 2006, when the visuals were getting pretty dated – the same year saw the release of Company of Heroes, Faces of War, WarFront: Turning Point and Warhammer: Mark of Chaos. But its massive gameplay was not diminished by its late arrival. Also a standalone game.
