Description: This scenario puts you in charge of the Russian army defending the St. Petersburg fortress from a hypothetical Swedish assault. The Order of Battle for both sides is fictional.
Something that I think is new - enemies will retreat and surrender when their numbers start to drop.
Tips and advice:
Despite all my efforts, the computer is still pretty far from smart. And you know I can't predict every move you'll make with your armies. So, take advantage of any idiotic steps of the blue player.
The Swedes will try to run around you with their cavalry and break into the fortress. Don't allow them to do that.
It's easy to lure the computer into ambushes.
Do your best to kill the Swedish commanders (the two 17th cent. dragoons and the 18th cent. dragoon). This will weaken the Swedish soldiers considerably. But don't throw too many of your men in that direction because the Swedes will defend their general.
You have the Hussars and the Sich cossacks, about 200 excellent light cavalrymen in total. Use your imagination.
The Pause feature is your best firend, unless you've got two keyboards and are an octopus with divided brain hemispheres.
And a quick note - the scenario has no difficulty levels. I didn't do such because: (1) I was alredy very lazy after having to write, tune and test about 80 other triggers; and (2) There are no difficulty levels in real life, you either can do something or can't do it. Implementation of difficulty levels brings a history-inspired, really-happened event closer to a mere "game level". Bad for the overall athmosphere I'm aiming for. My own difficulty rating for the scenario is between "easy" and "normal", being closer to "normal".
Known bugs:
Well, there are a lot of things I'd like still like to have in the scenario but can't have them, due to technical reasons. You will notice that the Swedes attack their own men if they surrender (switch to white colour). It's not my fault, I'm just not allowed to set a player to be allied with two other players who are enemies. On one occasion, when the peace offering swede had to switch to orange colour, some swedish soldiers switched instead. (Note - this shouldn't happen in the "-working" version). I don't know why it happened, my groups are assigned properly. Also, the scenario editor itself would often play games with me, deleting actions and conditions on its own whim, hanging up when I try to rename a trigger, stuff like that. Send me any bug reports and/or comments.
