Cossacks map: Prince Heinrich
Description: It is the date September 4th, 1631. Central Europe has descended into chaos and blood as Catholic forces fight Protestant in what is deemed a battle for God's true religion. Two giant armies are converging on the town of Brietenfeld, in Saxony, each representing a warring ideology. They will meet head on in a few days. Enforcing the will of the Catholic side is Marshall Tilly, General of the Hapsburg Empire and Catholic League. On the other is Gustavus Adolphus, champion of the Protestant cause and defender of the German Princes.
Both sides have mustered their allies to their side, the Swedes recently winning the support of John George, King of Saxony. However, a local ruler, Prince Heinrich, has declined to aid either side in this battle. Though Catholic, he has many Protestant subjects, and thus far has been able to sheild his tiny duchy from the bloodbath.
Both sides have recently sent spies into the beautiful agricultural land and report that with some instigation, the true believers of the community will rise in arms against their neutral lord and gladly aid in the butchery of their religious foes. All that is needed is a token show of force. They race each other to quickly subdue this noisome Prince and bring with them officers of the local population to form the new recruits into units.
Little do they know that the Prince is aware of these plans and has called on his loyal subjects to resist all invaders, Imperial and Swedish. He figures that if fierce resistance is mustered, and the small invading parties are defeated, the nearby converging giants will deem the affair a needless distraction. Thus it is that the Austrian Imperialists (red) and Swedish (blue) arrive with minimal force in a land teeming with partisans who hide in ambush wherever they can. The Prince commands the defense of his residence, a stragically placed star fort in the midle of his kingdom, nearby a swamp.
It is suggested that one studies the map in Editor before attempting to play it. Several caches of cannon lie about the map, hidden by the locals to prevent capture. Each invading side has barracks already on the map, but the corresponding blacksmiths must be captured and defended if troops are to be produced. All building and up-grades are allowed, it is an Open Map. A standard 2-person battle.
